Affirmative practice is not a specialty track — it is a baseline standard of care. Every LGBTQ+ client who walks through our doors deserves care that sees them fully and harms them not at all.

This training covers affirming language and intake practices, minority stress and mental health burden, transgender and gender-expansive care, religious and family rejection, the Indiana legal landscape, and suicide risk assessment and crisis response with LGBTQ+ clients.

What You Will Learn

  • Lesson 1: Affirming Language, Terminology, and Intake Practices
  • Lesson 2: Minority Stress Theory and Mental Health Burden
  • Lesson 3: Working with Transgender and Gender-Expansive Clients
  • Lesson 4: Religious and Family Rejection and Its Clinical Impact
  • Lesson 5: The Indiana Legal Landscape
  • Lesson 6: Suicide Risk and Crisis Response with LGBTQ+ Clients

Before You Begin

Work through each lesson in order. At the end of this course you will complete a 24-question quiz covering all six lessons. A passing score is required to receive credit for this annual training.

This training is required annually for all clinical and administrative staff. It is aligned with APA, ACA, NASW, and WPATH affirmative practice standards and supports compliance with Indiana behavioral health CE standards.
